Jaggery Coated Banana Chips (ഷാർക്കര ഉപ്പേരി)

Sharkara Upperi, is a Traditional Kerala Snack made by coating deep-fried raw Banana pieces with Jaggery (Sharkara in Malayalam) and flavored with Ginger, Cumin, and Cardamom. It holds a special place in Kerala’s culinary History during the Feasts and Festivals of Kerala. Given the need to preserve excess produce, people developed various methods of preparing Bananas, including frying and Sweetening them with locally available Jaggery. The result was a long-lasting, energy-rich Snack that became a household Sweet favorite.

Ingredients: Ripe Banana, Jaggery, Coconut Oil, Dry Ginger Powder, Cardamom Powder and Rice Flour
